WWE recently shocked the world with their several billion-dollar deal with Netflix about their weekly show RAW. However, recent discussions and information spilled the beans on their Netflix collaboration. Speaking at the Morgan Stanley conference, TKO COO Mark Shapiro revealed their initial plan.

With the deal being set to begin in January 2025, Shapiro revealed which show the deal was originally intended for before Netflix secured the rights for RAW.

If not WWE RAW then which show was planned for the Netflix deal?

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley conference, Mark Shapiro revealed that the deal was instead meant for WWE’s developmental brand NXT. Despite being the developmental brand, NXT has consistently proved itself at par with the main roster.

From producing high-quality matches to engaging storylines, NXT can often be referred to as the third brand of WWE. Once the RAW deal was confirmed with Netflix, it was then the global rights conversation took place with the streaming giants.

Reputed wrestling economist Brandon Thurston revealed that, the original plan was set for NXT before moving to RAW. Valued at $ billion, the deal is estimated to be around $500 million each other. WWE’s deal with USA Network ends in September 2024, and it is unclear where RAW shall air from September 2024 to January 2025.

Shapiro further credited WWE President Nick Khan and TKO CFO Andrew Schleimer for finalizing this deal with Netflix. RAW’s competitor brand SmackDown also saw itself taking an increment.

The blue brand shall be moving from $205 million per year to  $287 million per year in its next deal with NBCU. Both brands now securing lucrative deals, WWE is set to begin a new chapter. Especially considering the now have the Brahma Bull on the TKO Board of Directors.

Why hasn’t Dwayne Johnson shown up on WWE RAW?

Recently Dwayne Johnson credited himself for finalising WWE’s deal with Netflix. However, despite their good-money deal why does The Brahma Bull refrain from showing up on the red brand? One of the major reasons behind this could be his presence to elevate SmackDown.

With RAW already set with a lucrative deal, The Rock could now be focusing on elevating SmackDown. Another prime reason behind this could be, Dwayne Johnson and Roman Reigns elevating SmackDown while the management using Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins to lift RAW on their shoulders.

These four stalwarts are now rumored to face each other at WrestleMania XL Night 1 in a tag-team match, with extremely high stakes.
