The last time WrestleMania was in Vegas it was during the ninth edition of WWE’s marquee event. WrestleMania IX, hosted at Caesars Palace, was the first ‘Mania event held outdoors. The event was largely received as underwhelming and saw The Undertaker compete in a rather unforgettable match against Giant Gonzalez, winning via disqualification. But it was the main event that would become the talking point for years to come.
After Yokozuna defeated Bret “The Hitman” Hart for the WWE Championship thanks to Mr. Fuji, Hulk Hogan made his way to the ring. Fuji then threw a challenge to Hogan who duly accepted and beat Yokozuna in under 30 seconds to win the WWE title. This drew criticism in many parts and remains one of the infamous WrestleMania endings. WWE will be keen to avoid a repeat if they were to head back to Vegas next year.
WrestleMania 40 is taking place in Philadelphia. However, the Kick Off event for the upcoming PLE took place in Las Vegas because of the coverage it would provide the company due to the Super Bowl Weekend.
