WrestleMania 28 featured a card with high-stakes matches. The main event encapsulated this sentiment with nothing less than a generational clash between two WWE legends. The Rock and John Cena faced each other in the match cataloged as Once in a Lifetime. Although that motto did not live up to its name, both wrestlers provided an excellent show to the fans.

But do you know that John Cena was supposed to turn heel after losing the match? Well, yes, that’s true, and they also had a theme song for his heel character. Intrigues? Let’s dive in deeper, shall we?

More than a decade after the fight, Twitter user FADE posted a video on X that contained the music that was supposed to be the heel theme for John Cena. In the caption to the post, FADE revealed that Cena was supposed to turn heel. Also, he had a different theme prepared until Vince McMahon scrapped the plans. He wrote, “John Cena was supposed to turn heel after losing to The Rock at WrestleMania 28. This was going to be his heel theme song. But Vince canceled all plans last minute.”

The theme contained Cena’s typical rap throws but had heavy guitar riffs and drums in the background. This surely would’ve been a deep contrast to his iconic upbeat theme. But do you know that the result of the match wasn’t decided until the last minute?

“I kind of knew what was gonna happen like a year in advance (for the match against The Rock at WrestleMania 28). But the decision on how the end would be was put up for debate until about two days before WrestleMania; about who would win and this is a very important thing I think,” Cena said.
