WWE veterans often switch to their critique’s self when it comes to the arch-rival promotion, AEW. But the criticism gets another volume when it comes from Eric Bischoff, former WWE Hall of Famer who is widely known for his vast industry knowledge and experience.
Bischoff’s never minced his words while taking a shot at AEW’s star CM Punk. While his criticism of Punk is not a secret to fans, his recent comment regarding the former AEW world Champion included a different sarcastic tone altogether.

Bischoff ironically pointed out that his paycheck won’t decide his value inside the ring. Labeling Punk as an average performer with an impactful persona, the wrestling veteran noted, ”I don’t blame him. He’s a smart guy. I don’t particularly think that he’s that talented, I think he’s overblown, I think he’s highly overrated, and I think he’s been able to manage and create this persona. That has somehow survived and is good for him doing that.”
Bischoff continued, “That’s an art form unit or itself. But in terms of what he can actually deliver in the ring, we’ve experienced it. It’s not nearly as it doesn’t live up to the hype.”
‘But hey, he’s got leverage. You know he’s probably got a multi-million dollar lawsuit waiting in the wings and attorneys that are more than willing to go after that. You know he’s probably getting a check every month. I don’t know what Tony is paying him. I have heard numbers ranging from 4 million to 7 million a year,’ Bischoff added.
Reports suggested that CM Punk will soon make a return to the Jacksonville-based promotion but Bischoff believes the temporary buzz of having the megastar back won’t create much difference in terms of AEW’s current viewership numbers.
Is CM Punk about to make a return?
The 44-year-old superstar has been away from AEW TV due to multiple injuries since last year’s All Out of 2022 which included his infamous brawl out with other AEW stars backstage. His recent controversial comments on fellow stars, including Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and Tony Khan, created a further setback to his career.

Currently, it seems like the megastar’s reappearance in the ring is just a matter of time. The recent report says, CM Punk will probably return to the June 22 episode of AEW Dynamite, which will go on air from Wintrust Arena, Illinois, Chicago. Given that the venue is Punk’s hometown, a potential return seems more obvious.
It should also be noted that the star even expressed his desire to get work alongside Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks.
