Vince McMahon is often credited for turning the entire wrestling industry around. Although, at the receiving end of major criticisms now, McMahon was one of the main heads behind turning professional wrestling into an International industry.

Often credited for innovating creative gimmicks, and characters, the former WWE Champion recently took the credit for creating one of his own characters. During the latest podcast episode, when a question was raised about the origin of his gimmick, the 54-year-old wrestler claimed that it was his idea.

Which wrestler took the credit for creating his own wrestling gimmick?

Speaking on his latest podcast episode, former WWE champion Kurt Angle revealed the origin behind his character, ‘The wrestling machine’. This character was a no-nonsense character of Angle. While prior to this, Angle was involved in hilarious stuff, but after a rebuke from Vince McMahon, he reinvented himself.

Angle said, ” I came up with it. You know Vince McMahon came to me and said, ‘listen we need to stop doing the funny stuff . I want you to be taken more seriously.’ and I said, ‘yeah that’s fine.’ I said, ‘what do you want from me?’ And he said, ‘I just want a really intense Kurt Angle.’ I said, ‘how about the wrestling machine?'”

He further revealed, “So, that’s how it all started. It was my idea, and I ran into it. I ran with it actually. It worked out really well. Unfortunately, it did not last really long because I wasn’t in WWE long after that. ” 

The Olympic gold medalist would further reveal that his wrestling machine gimmick would work really well in ECW, and Paul Heyman’s idea of using his character is a visible proof of it.

Paul Heyman envisioned Kurt Angle and RVD as the faces of ECW

In the same podcast, Kurt Angle also revealed how Paul Heyman saw him alongside Rob Van Dam aka RVD, as his new poster boys. Heyman envisioned Angle as the top no-nonsense babyface, and wanted to push him to the moon.

Angle said, “Paul wanted me to dominate. So, he wanted me to dominate, he wanted me to be the face of the company along with Rob Van Dam, and you know they wanted me to be this wrestling machine. They didn’t want me to do any gimmicks or anything.”

He claimed that both McMahon and Heyman wanted nothing funny from him, while he himself enjoyed doing the hilarious role. Although, many claim this gimmick to be the brainchild of either McMahon or Heyman, Angle argued that it was his own innovation, which he ran past The Wiseman and Vince McMahon.
