The Intercontinental Champion Gunther has been one of WWE’s standout performers over the last year or so. His dominance since joining the main roster has sparked fan speculation about him potentially becoming the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion. While others have tried and failed to dethrone Roman Reigns, Bully Ray believes Gunther could be the one to step into that role, possibly taking over as the face of WWE.

Bully Ray on Gunther replacing Reigns

On Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray discussed Gunther’s dominant title reign, drawing parallels to Roman Reigns. When asked if Gunther could assume the role of the face of WWE by becoming the Undisputed Universal Champion, Ray expressed a strong belief in Gunther’s potential. “Without a doubt,” he declared on the radio show, emphasizing Gunther’s capacity as a World Champion. He also referred to him as a “Throwback champion”, saying he reminds him of his favorite champion Pedro Morales and Gunther will always come after Morales for him.

Currently, Gunther’s focus remains on his Intercontinental Championship run. Recently, on RAW he solidified his place in WWE history by defeating Chad Gable. This victory guarantees that he will surpass Honky Tonk Man’s record to become the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion ever. Considering the prestigious lineage of the title, Gunther’s achievement places him in esteemed company, and Bully Ray now ranks him among the all-time great Intercontinental Champions.

In April 2022, Gunther, formerly known as Walter, joined the WWE main roster. Just two months later, he became the WWE Intercontinental Champion by defeating Ricochet. Gunther is tall, standing at 6’4″, and weighs 297 pounds, even after losing 30 pounds before his SmackDown debut. What makes Gunther special is that he’s not just a big guy; he can also do athletic and strong kicks.

But it’s not just about his wrestling skills. Gunther is scary when he’s in the ring. He looks tough, and his facial expressions make him even scarier, like Brock Lesnar when he first came to WWE. Plus, Triple H, who did great things with NXT, is now helping in WWE’s creative decisions.

So, Gunther’s future in WWE looks bright with all this support.
