Why Vince McMahon Sold the WWE?

WrestleMania 39 was a colossal hit among wrestling fans. Fans witnessed some amazing matches and several jaw-dropping moments. However, the genuine shock came after WWE’s biggest event of the year.

The WWE Universe was in tremendous shock when CEO Vince McMahon decided to sell the company. The deal was done with Endeavor and Mr. McMahon passed his family legacy to Ari Emanuel. But the question that still roams in everyone’s mind is why he did that. 

After the deal was done, Vince McMahon gave an interview with CNBC and explained the intentions behind his actions.

Vince McMahon answers why he sold his family legacy

After WrestleMania 39, WWE CEO Vince McMahon appeared in an interview with CNBC. he gave that interview after signing the deal with Ari Emanuel. During the interview, McMahon was asked about the reason behind selling the business that his family has handled for more than 70 years. 

To this, Vince McMahon replied that it was the perfect time to do so. He called this the next evolution of the WWE and said that what Emmanuel is doing with UFC is amazing and it will take him ten years to do the same but he wanted it for the company right now and that’s what led him to the decision. 

Talking about his decision, Vince McMahon said, “It’s the right time. It’s the right time to do the right thing, and it’s the next evolution of WWE……I could probably do what Ari is doing right now with UFC but it would take me ten years. By the I grab those ten years, he’d be ten years ahead of me. It makes all the sense in the world for all of these synergies that we have to extract all of the value we can out of the marketplace.”

Even though McMahon sold the company suddenly, reports about a potential sale surfaced at the beginning of 2023.

McMahon selling the company was pre-planned

In January 2023, Vince McMahon returned to the WWE and held his position as the CEO back. With his return, he made it clear that he was here to sell the company. Just a few days after his return, the co-CEO Stephanie McMahon decided to leave.

Just with this announcement, fans and other persons related to professional wrestling started to talk about potential buyers. The buzz went down as McMahon maintained a distance from the media. And then all of a sudden he created it again when he announced that WWE was sold to the company that owns the UFC as well.
