Andrew McLean Galloway IV aka Drew McIntyre is also known as The Scottish Warrior of WWE. Billed at 265 lbs and 6’5, he is a multi-time world champion and a Royal Rumble winner. Apart from his physical prowess, what also sets him apart in WWE is his unique ring gear that comprises a skirt, along with his tights and sword. It was also a prominent part of WWE Legend Rowdy Piper.

Let us first try to understand the rationale behind his unique ring gear. Since he hails from Scotland, he has adopted the moniker of The Scottish Warrior. Hence, he wears a skirt aka a kilt along with a sword resembling a Nordic Warrior. He even has a different theme song after dumping his old theme song which is extremely popular among fans.

There is a long history behind Scottish people wearing a skirt-like attire called a Kilt. Its origins can be traced back to the 16th century when Scottish locals would use it as it was well suited for rugged terrain and wet climates. Later on, it became a cultural identity and the British turned it into a form of formalwear. The patterns on the Kilt aka Tartans, represent specific Scottish clans. Hence, there are many reasons why people wear it. But Drew McIntyre has one more reason to make it a part of his wardrobe.

During an interview in 2021, he explained the reason behind wearing Kilt. He said, “I’m surprised it took this long to be honest…the Scots have known for hundreds and hundreds of years how comfortable the kilt is and allow your daily activities to get taken care of a lot easier.” He further said, “It’s nice and breezy.

Though there are many advantages and cultural history behind wearing a Kilt, it may not be a good fit for everyone as there are some disadvantages of its own. McIntyre jokingly mentioned one of them when he said, “I can’t say enough nice things about it.
