Dwayne Johnson is today one of the top action heroes in Hollywood. While filming his movie, he makes sure of the safety of himself and of his co-stars after all he comes from a pro wrestling background where this was a daily job. ‘The Brahma Bull’ has even gone on to take several measures while filming if his Seven Bucks is the producer. However, when he was a rookie in Hollywood, an accident on the set while filming an action scene might have ended his career.

This was the time when The Rock was an active WWE superstar and wrestled in Vince McMahon’s company. This accident would’ve been fatal for him and his co-star.

An unintentional scene might have ended The Rock’s career in 2002

The Rock’s Hollywood career kicked off with the movie The Scorpion King. It was a spin-off to The Mummy Franchise, and he had made a cameo appearance in The Mummy Returns. 

However, while filming The Scorpion King, ‘The People’s Champion’ had a sword fight scene with the late actor Michael Clarke Duncan. While filming the same, there was an unintentional accident that would’ve ended their careers as they used real swords in the movie.

As per Dwayne Johnson’s IMDB Trivia, “While he was filming his swordfight scene with Michael Clarke Duncan in The Scorpion King (2002), the breaking of the swords was real and unintended, and openly stated that this was extremely dangerous because this was not planned and this could have cut anybody.”

Fortunately, nothing severe thing happened and both the actors were safe. The movie got mixed reviews and was the first movie with The Rock as a lead actor. The 2002 movie The Scorpion King had a budget of $60 million and made $180 million at the box office.

Furthermore, DJ made a $5.5-million paycheck playing Mathayus of Akkad / The Scorpion King in the movie as a lead in his first movie. Nevertheless, in this scene, the stars nearly injured each other, but in one of the scenes, Duncan received a taste of some of The Rock’s in-ring exploits after he hurt him accidentally.

Dwayne Johnson accidentally hurt Michael Clarke Duncan 

In the IMDB’s website’s Trivia section, there is another detail regarding DJ and Duncan’s other scenes. While filming this scene The Rock accidentally hit the late actor with ‘The People’s Elbow’, not in the WWE style.

It states, “While filming The Scorpion King (2002), accidentally hit Michael Clarke Duncan during a fight sequence. Duncan leaned in too far for a hit, and his chin connected with The Rock’s elbow.”
