The iconic Hogan-Piper rivalry dates back to the time when they squared off against each other in the inaugural WrestleMania. The event took place on March 31, 1985, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In the main event of the show, the team of Hulkamania and Mr. T defeated the team of Paul Orndorff and Rowdy.

During the 2009 interview, Piper revealed he did not hate Hogan. But he was upset with the preferential treatment he was getting. The promotion would hype his ‘Mania opponent like an A-lister. While he would get a B-lister’s treatment from them. The company catered to The Hulkster‘s every need, whereas he got neglected by them.

He said, “I’m not saying he’s a bad guy. I’m just talking about the situation we were in. He was catered to, and he was great. But how many times I have been stabbed? Who needed the protection? Not him. I did. But the promotion, they weren’t savvy enough.”

“They didn’t know the business well enough to realize that fact, so the more, the harder I had to push it – where it sounded like I was jealous of – Hey! Where’s my security? Where is my limousine? – They thought I wanted to be in a limousine so I could be a big shot. And there was no talking to him. Well, I wouldn’t let go,” he added.

This resulted in him developing bitter feelings for Hulkamania. However, years later, the stars were successful in resolving their grievances. In fact, the late star even celebrated Hogan’s birthday during a Monday Night RAW segment in 2014.
