Wrestling promotions are often criticized for not pushing female wrestlers enough. They are accused of not offering enough opportunities to women and not paying enough attention to the female division. As a man with a lot of say in WWE, Triple H was also dragged into this debate by a female reporter at a recent press conference. This happened following the company’s SummerSlam event.

During the official press conference for SummerSlam, Hunter arrived pretty late to the scene. Among the questions was one about WWE’s women’s division. The reporter asked him about the condition of women in WWE moving forward. Without much thought, the former wrestler gave a very clear reply.

With a new Women’s Champion at hand, it’s important to determine what the company thinks about its female talent. After hearing the doubt from the reporter, Triple H gave her an interesting answer.

Triple H started by saying, “I look at the women in WWE just like I look at the men in WWE. They are ‘talent’. And it’s irrelevant to me if they are a female talent or a male talent. It doesn’t matter to me.” After claiming that he takes care of all WWE talent regardless of their gender, Hunter also answered a doubt about why women don’t often appear to be ‘main eventing’ in PLEs.

We didn’t make them the main event of anything and this has been for me through takeovers and NXT and all of it. If they were the main event, it’s because they were the ‘main event’, not because ‘hey that’s pretty good. You guys are women. I think I’ll get better press if I put you in the main event. That’s cool, right?’ No, it’s not. It’s whoever is the most deserving,” added the 54-year-old to his statement.

The statement from the head of the creative team reminded the audience of the many times when women have done main events for PLEs at WWE. According to him, during such cases, nobody from the team offered them the spot as a token. Rather, they got it because they were worthy of the spot.
