Documentaries regarding the WWE have been a staple since 2006’s The American Dream: The Dusty Rhodes Story. The WWE is a layered program and multiple documentaries have tried to uncover these layers. Some revealed the Dark Side of the Ring while others told the inspirational stories of particular wrestlers.

The documentary was first announced in 2020. However, due to the McMahon investigation, the finished product’s release date was constantly pushed back. The investigation was regarding the sexual misconduct and hush money allegations against him. Despite everything, The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, executive producer of the documentary, had some positive news.

While on the Sports Illustrated Media podcast, Simmons said, “I think it’s going to be the first part of next year.” He also added that the team spent a lot of time on the project and would not like to disclose too much information. Chris Smith is directing the documentary.

Simmons also added, “It’s a few parts. I’m pretty passionate about this.” He went on to explain that the project was to cover the entire life of Mr. McMahon, and it would not be a straightforward task. “This is about Vince McMahon, his life, and wrestling, so obviously, it can’t be two hours,” he concluded.

However, Simmons isn’t restricted by creative shackles as the esteemed WWE personality won’t have a say over its presentation

McMahon does not have the final say on his documentary

Simmons made one very clear: McMahon did not have a say in the final cut despite being the executive producer of it. He said McMahon would be shown documentary clips, but that would be all. This could hint at a true-to-life story being told in the documentary.

The documentary has raised a ton of hype around it. Fans are hoping it would touch upon the positive and negative sides of McMahon’s life. Some believe the allegation parts may be cut out to keep a better reputation.
