There was a time when there was a thick wall between professional wrestling and the real world. As time went by, this wall started to become fragile and now it is entirely transparent. Unlike before, now fans feel less invested in the storylines. It is because they already know what is going on behind the drapes.

Recently, former WWE superstar Bully Ray has revealed the main reason behind the transparency of the wall. He also gave the reason why WWE would never be able to bring the charisma of the ‘Attitude Era’ and ECW back now.

Lately, the former WWE superstar Bully Ray appeared in the latest episode of the podcast ‘Busted Open’. There he put the spotlight on the reason why fans are feeling less invested in wrestling storylines these days.

Bully Ray took the example of the ‘Attitude Era’ and ECW to clear his point. He mentioned that people used to leave everything and glue themselves in front of the television to watch and record the wrestling shows during that time.

Talking to the host, Bully Ray said, “I think if we are giving people what they were getting and I will just use the….attitude era and ECW as an example… When it came to ECW… people would leave the bar at a certain time to get home to watch and record ECW. Attitude era, no brainer, when you were doing ratings like in 8.1, your a** was parked in front of your television set at 7:45 on a Monday.

Ray later elaborated further on why fans don’t feel the same way about the storylines today like back during the ‘Attitude Era’ and ECW. According to him, this is because Vince McMahon has pulled the curtain off the pro-wrestling, and now no matter how good a storyline is, fans know that it is not real.

Vince didn’t wanna pay the taxes no more on being seen as a real sport. Thus, getting it declared sports entertainment didn’t have to deal with that athletic commissions’ I believe that the curtain has been pulled back entirely too far on the world of pro-wrestling,” Bully Ray added.

Not only this, but Ray also gave a foolproof solution to bring back wrestling fans to the TV from social media and other platforms.

According to Bully Ray, must-see television is the only way back

Earlier in the podcast, Bully Ray said that the real reason why people don’t feel like watching wrestling on TV these days and prefer to watch the clips on social media and other platforms is that they are not getting enough must-see television.

He even mentioned that, if fans get their dose of must-see television, then they will definitely not wait for the after-match reports or reviews, but instead they would watch it live on the television.
