WWE has divided its roster into different divisions or brands on which these stars perform every week. Amongst the three brands, NXT serves as a developmental territory to groom new talents at the promotion. In 2018, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque happened to ponder on a new idea for an existing division. He had announced that the promotion would be entering the country of the United Kingdom to expand their developmental division NXT. NXT UK, which started filming its shows in 2018, went off-air after the Worlds Collide event in September 2022.

However, there are two good news for the brand’s fans now. NXT UK which will be now called NXT Europe will now be making its return. Apart from that, a new talent on which Triple H has his eyes might end up becoming the face of the brand.

Renowned American journalist and sports historian, Dave Meltzer was present on the latest podcast episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. On the episode, he talked about the revival of the NXT UK brand as NXT Europe and the possible face of the brand, British pro wrestler, Will Ospreay.

Meltzer said, “One idea that was thrown out to me was NXT Europe built around Will Ospreay” hinting that the idea is in the works. He also highlighted the fact that it also depends on how much the promotion is willing to spend to get Ospreay on board while rebranding an old but fan-favorite division.

Meltzer also pointed out the effect the brand had on the country’s independent wrestling scene. But again he said that the promotion has a green signal from the parent company Endeavor. “They’ve got the go-ahead from Endeavor to do it”, he said, further adding, “so you don’t know what that entails.” Meltzer also pointed out the fact that WWE might have to lock horns with AEW for this deal. According to him, if Ospreay decides to move to the USA, it will lead to WWE locking horns with AEW. Meltzer believes that moving to the States will make him more valuable for both promotions.

Ospreay is currently signed with NJPW so it might be a bit early to make all the plans. But the question is how are WWE planning things out if they are willing to welcome the Aerial Assasin

Are the preparations underway for Will Ospreay?

At the media scrum post-NXT No Mercy, the Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, Shawn Michaels showed his excitement for NXT Europe. However, according to him, the brand should have gone on air by now. According to HBK, the brand was meant to go live in 2023. He stated that he is excited for the brand to start which is now set for 2024 with no date announced. Michaels further added that as for now he does not have any updates and he is as clueless as the fans right now.

Will Ospreay’s contract with NJPW is set to expire by January or February of 2024. Considering that WWE is planning to set up the new division by then and might become a reality around the same time. But the question is will Ospreay wait till then? As Tony Khan has done previously to compete with WWE, he might take advantage of the situation and bring the 30-year-old star on board to AEW.

According to reports, Ospreay is at the forefront of becoming the Wrestler of the Year with his two matches with Kenny Omega being at the ‘Match of the Year’ level.
