Different promotions in the business often develop rivalry among themselves. Both WWE and AEW have a similar relationship. There are some stars in AEW who are the ‘originals’ of the promotion, having debuted there. However, many top stars in AEW are also the ones who left WWE to join the budding promotion and start their career anew.

MJF is a top star who doesn’t fit either of these categories. His last match at AEW Dynamite left several spectators in awe. Although it ended with a ‘draw’, there were several things about the match that kept fans entertained. One such thing was MJF name-dropping Vince McMahon.

Why did the AEW star name-drop Vince McMahon?

Friedman started in the wrestling business in 2015 and has worked in a lot of places. He joined AEW at ‘Double or Nothing’ in 2019. Since then, MJF has been a prominent name in the company. And now, the superstar had a match with former WWE wrestler Adam Cole at AEW Dynamite.

A week before the match, both wrestlers had a face-off during an in-ring promo. Both of them bad-mouthed each other. Eventually, MJF told Cole “Vince was right” for not considering him a top star in WWE. This was the first time Friedman dropped McMahon’s name before his ultimate reference during the match at Dynamite.

To own up to his words, Jacob wore an elbow band to the ring which read, “Vince was right”. This cracked a lot of fans and they shared their reactions on Twitter.

Fans reacting to MJF’s Vince McMahon reference

Most of the spectators considered the sight to be hilarious. We can see this through how much they are enjoying MJF’s antics in the comments by adding their own jokes to the hilarious detail.

There was even speculation that MJF could potentially show up in WWE. So, this little reference gave fans more room to speculate.

This fan surely wants MJF to sign with WWE already.

It’s not new to see wrestling fans calling out Vince McMahon.

Some of them are really loving Friedman’s humor even during a serious match. His fans might love to see him adorning the same role for the rest of his time in the promotion.

‘Savage’ is less of a word for describing MJF’s personality while talking about his in-ring character in AEW. AEW often references WWE or its stars on their shows and this MJF took things to another level while poking an insult at Adam Cole at the same time.
