‘This Is Not What I Signed Up For’: Ric Flair Details How Professional Success Dilapidated His First Marriage

While Ric Flair enjoyed a stellar wrestling career, he admittedly failed in marriages. The sixteen-time World Champion has been married five times. However, his commitment to wrestling prevented him from saving his personal relationships. It’s no secret that wrestlers face several challenges in their relationships due to their careers.

The troubles in their love life are complex and multifaceted. The WWE Hall of Famer recently revealed that his first wife, from whom he has two kids, could not keep up with his busy schedule. 

Ric Flair recalls his wife getting weary of their relationship

Nobody would agree that pro wrestling is easy. Wrestlers are required to be on the road constantly. In a recent interview with Theo Von, Ric Flair recounted his failures in conjugal relationships. 

According to Flair, his first wife, Leslie Goodman, got lonely while Flair was immersed in his wrestling career. He said, “My first wife just said, this is cool, and I have two kids by her. We get along with to this day, we never had an argument. She just said, this is not what I signed up for. I said I’ll buy you a bigger house because I don’t care. I don’t. I’ve been spending my life alone. Because once you get on the road, if you’re successful, as you know, it’s fun.” 

Flair married Goodman in 1971. The couple remained in a relationship until 1983 before eventually parting ways. Flair also highlighted that it was not easy for women to stay committed to wrestlers, given their busy schedules.

After all, success in wrestling comes with a price and a lot of sacrifice. Anyway, Flair’s willingness to talk about his solitary journey highlights the sacrifices he has made to build an unrivaled, legendary career.

Despite failing in his first marriage, Flair got married four more times. His final marriage with Wendy Barlow was dissolved in late 2021. Nevertheless, as mentioned earlier, Flair has two kids from his marriage with Leslie Goodman. And one of them was a professional wrestler.
