Dwayne Johnson becoming one of the world’s highest-paid actors was inconceivable two decades ago. However, the WWE icon-turned-Hollywood mogul went on to become a bankable name in the film industry. Johnson rose to the top of the list of the world’s richest actors after appearing in blockbuster films.

At one point, Johnson was even involved in a film project with another affluent celebrity, Tyler Perry. Much like Dwayne Johnson, Tyler Perry is one of the wealthiest actors in the world. In fact, he dethroned Dwayne Johnson, taking second place after Jerry Seinfeld in the richest actors list. But years before that Perry and Johnson’s project never got to the big screen.

Whether it’s the WWE or Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson is the most significant attraction in any field he steps foot into. And so, in 2010, Dwayne Johnson was slated to star alongside Tyler Perry in a rom-com film. According to Deadline, Lionsgate had made a preemptive bid to claim the movie.

The film, titled “Take My Wife”, was written by Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward. It centered on the life of a divorced man (Perry) who devises a strategy to avoid paying alimony to his ex-wife. As a result, he prepares a roughneck person (Johnson) to become the paramor of the former’s ex-wife. However, in the process, he rekindles his feelings for his ex-wife and vies for her affection.

Although the film was in talks, it failed to hit theaters. Naturally, the fans were disappointed as they clamored to see the on-screen chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Tyler Perry. Fans assumed that the project was later scrapped, as no further details about the film were revealed.

The film’s producers included Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Chris Cowles, and Chris Fenton. At the time, Johnson’s Faster was slated to be released soon. Regardless of the fact that his film with Perry never materialized in theaters, Johnson still went on to work on megahit films.

Despite the nixed project, fans are still waiting to see if the duo will ever appear in a film together in the future.

Dwayne Johnson is seemingly going to reprise his role in the Mummy franchise

Dwayne Johnson was cast in his first Hollywood film, The Mummy Returns, in 2001. The film’s producers were so impressed with Johnson’s performance that they cast him in a star vehicle spinoff, The Scorpion King. However, in 2017, the franchise miserably failed to revive the film series, despite involving Tom Cruise.

According to GFR, Dwayne Johnson will be reprising the role of Mathayus, a.k.a. The Scorpion King. In addition, Rachel Weisz, Oded Fehr, and John Hannah will reprise their respective roles in the project’s reboot. As of this writing, the film is in talks. We will have to wait and see how long it takes for production to begin.
