Wrestlers put in a lot of energy day in and day out. They have to ensure to stay in shape at the gym and perform high-risk moves in the ring. And after all this adrenaline-pumping action, the body requires its fair share of fuel in the form of food.
Drawing a fine line between refueling and staying fit to ensure you can do your job is hard. But one current WWE superstar put all these heavyweights to shame by once eating almost 6 pounds of chicken.

This story goes back to Cena’s early wrestling days when he was with the Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW) in the early 2000s. And at that time, Cena’s go-to pal was none other than current AEW superstar Samoa Joe.
Joe and Cena share a long-standing friendship that goes back to their initial wrestling days. The duo used to drive miles from wrestling promotion to promotion. Nevertheless, after all that traveling and hard work, they needed a place to crash. Fortunately, Samoa Joe’s dad was always a gracious host. But one fateful night when Cena and an ex-AEW wrestler Frankie Kazarian came over, Joe’s father never knew they would end up finishing the entire fridge.
On his recent appearance on the ‘Doughboys Media’ podcast, Samoa Joe jokingly narrated that night’s food-eating fiasco. He said, “It was probably midnight you know. You know we were all kinda crashing on my pad because we had another show the next day so, we got back there. You know my pops really great host no matter what time of night. We get there and it’s probably like midnight and my dad just starts cooking.”
Joe went on to explain how his dad then cooked up two trays of grilled chicken out of which he just took one or two. But John Cena and Frankie Kazarian devoured the entire tray leaving Joe dumbstruck. He added, “Finally, they just finished all the chicken in the house, there was nothing left to eat, and they called it a draw. They probably both ate six pounds of chicken, if not more.”
Joe’s father might definitely have learned a lesson or two from that humorous incident. He might also be stocking up his fridge with more chicken going forward. But talking about chicken, John Cena once emerged as the unusual hero who helped save a little girl’s life.
