Twitter evened the playing field as thousands of users with a verified blue tick against their profiles lost it following the company’s recent update. A former WWE superstar took offense in particular, as he cried foul against the measure and called out the company’s owner, Elon Musk, over bias.

Matt Cardona vows to fight for the rights of fellow independent workers

After losing his verified blue tick, Matt Cardona, erstwhile Zack Ryder in WWE, alleged discrimination against Twitter. The former WWE United States Champion said his wife, WWE superstar Chelsea Green, still had the blue tick on her account, while the company removed it from his profile.

Cardona, who is currently working in the independent circuit, alleged that Musk favored his wife as she is currently a WWE employee. He also vowed to fight for the rights of other “INDEPENDENT workers”.

“Hey @elonmusk. You removed my check mark. But my wife @ImChelseaGreen got to keep hers. Why? Because she works for @wwe? That’s discrimination. As Indy God and Internet Champion, I will not allow this! I will FIGHT for the RIGHTS of my fellow INDEPENDENT workers!,” Cardona tweeted.

Twitter removed the blue ticks in line with the website’s new policy, which came into effect on April 20. The new update will strip the blue ticks from 400,000 legacy verified accounts, some of which belong to top global stars. The verification, which was earlier free of cost, will now charge users $8 a month. Users will have to sign up to Blue to avail of the service.

Cordona, however, tweeted later that he and his wife were even now.

Meanwhile, in March, the former WWE Intercontinental champion opened up about his future in pro wrestling.

Matt Cardona says he’s waiting for the right moment to join wife Chelsea Green

As Zack Ryder, Cardona performed in WWE for 15 years, before being released in 2020. The 37-year-old has since been a part of All Elite Wrestling and Impact Wrestling, among others.

In a chat with the ‘Casual Conversations with The Classic’ in March, Cordona said he is waiting for the right moment to return to the WWE.

“I would be lying if I said I never wanted to wrestle at Madison Square Garden again, Or I never wanted to have a WrestleMania moment again…Yeah, of course, I do, but, I’m gonna find my path back there,” he said.

Cordona also hailed his wife Chelsea Green’s recent run in the WWE.

“Maybe she’ll have a WrestleMania match. I am so so proud of her, but it’s not my time to go back yet,” Cordona added.

The WWE had released Cordona due to Covid-19 budget cuts. Maybe after the recent $21 billion merger with UFC, the Stamford-based company will look to rehire the 37-year-old.
