Cody Rhodes is currently nursing a broken hand after sustaining a brutal attack from Brock Lesnar on the recent episode of RAW. The Beast Incarnate and Rhodes will go toe-to-toe in Saudi Arabia at Night of Champions later this week. Meanwhile, the internet is abuzz with The American Nightmare’s WrestleMania 40 opponent, and it’s not Roman Reigns.

Interestingly, netizens approved the choice of the wrestler, who is rumored to face the 37-year-old at ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’ in 2024.

Cody Rhodes’ rumored opponent has a Brock Lesnar connection

Brock Lesnar, 45, is one of the greatest wrestlers to have stepped inside the squared circle. Known for his ultra-aggressive nature, the former WWE Champion shows no mercy to his opponents. Recently, Cody Rhodes learned this lesson the hard way as Lenar’s attack left him with a limb injury. Meanwhile, a current WWE title holder has showered lavish praise on Lesnar and even expressed his desire to face the wrestler inside the ring.

In case you haven’t guessed, it is current Intercontinental Champion Gunther. The 35-year-old Austrian is also rumored to be Rhodes’ opponent at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The report was shared by Cultaholic Wrestling via a tweet. The outlet said Cody Rhodes and Gunther might face each other in the main event at WrestleMania 40.

The post attracted several comments from fans, who seemed to agree with the proposal.

Meanwhile, Gunther will be defending his title at the Night of Champions PLE against Mustafa Ali. That, however, is not the only task he is likely to perform during the night.

Is Gunther going to help Roman Reigns?

WWE is currently going around in circles. After losing out on an opportunity to finish his story, Cody Rhodes challenged Roman Reigns for a rematch on RAW after ‘Mania. He had half his wish granted as Reigns agreed to a tag match. In the absence of a partner, Brock Lesnar extended his help to Cody, only to turn heel and ambush him even before the bell rang.

This started a feud between the two, and Reigns has his sights on the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. The Tribal Chief has challenged the current champions- Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens– hoping to strip the gold off of their waists with the help of Solo Sikoa and bring it back to The Bloodline.

Earlier this month, Reigns’ Wise Man Paul Heyman was seen forming an alliance with Gunther-led stable Imperium. Though their deal wasn’t shown, Imperium was seen later that night meddling in Zayn and Owens’ affairs, costing them a match against Damian Priest and Finn Balor of The Judgement Day. Will Gunther and his men reprise their role at Night of Champions and help Reigns to hoard more gold? Only time will tell.
