Vince McMahon is the only businessman in the current era who became a billionaire just by booking wrestling matches. Before retiring and returning to sell WWE to Endeavour, he ran the company for nearly four decades. In almost 40 years, he ran WWE through some tough times, but all that changed in the late 90s.

However, during the same period in 1998, Mr. McMahon was called to speak at Oxford University and a loyal WWE official once gave his thoughts on the same.

Back in December 1998, McMahon was invited to speak at Oxford. At the time WWE was traveling to the UK for the WWF/WWE Capital Carnage pay-per-view. As per this 60-year-old WWE official, it was a big deal for the former CEO of the company.

In a 2016 episode of Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard, the 60-year-old talked about McMahon speaking in Oxford. He gave his thoughts almost 18 years later on his podcast.

Prichard said, “No sh*t? I’ll never forget when Vince told us, ‘Ah, god damn, and I’m speaking at Oxford and never let me in’. That was a kick in the a**. That was a pretty damn big deal but for Mr. McMahon to go there and they gave him some kind of honorary bullsh*t deal.”

The Undertaker’s former manager added, “He was there and he was he was actually inside. I think he was tickled pink to go do that. That was a big f**k you to the establishment that Oxford would invite him to come and speak.”

Not to forget in the early 90s WWE was embroiled in steroid allegations and pro wrestling was looked down upon by certain sections of the media, so for McMahon to be invited to Oxford was a big deal.

As per Solie Exclusive, ‘Vinnie-Mac’ spoke for an hour at the Oxford Union. Moreover, post that he answered several questions for the next 20 minutes.

McMahon was operating on a different level back in 1998 during the Attitude Era. He was booking shows and appearing on them as well. Moreover, he also wrestled several times when needed. Irrespective of his busy schedule, he spoke at Oxford and held a PLE from the UK too.

What did McMahon say at Oxford?

By the time 1998 came, McMahon had become an experienced businessman. Thus, he had a lot to say during his visit to Oxford Union.

As per Solie Exclusive, he started the speech in his TV character saying, “That sort of ovation would be suitable for a prime minister… a leader of technology… but it’s not good enough for Vince McMahon!”

Furthermore, he addressed some of the things he was dealing with at the time. Also, he remembered his father Vince McMahon Sr., while sharing how he started WWE back then.
