“That Makes It Even Worse”: Fans Unhappy With Vince McMahon as Former WWE Writer Discloses an Unheard Truth Behind Kofi Kingston Getting Squashed by Brock Lesnar in 2019

At WrestleMania 35, the WWE superstar Kofi Kingston created history by becoming the first African-born WWE world champion. He defeated Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson now) to bag this accolade. Kingston got a huge pop as he became the champion after spending over a decade in the promotion without even competing for the world title.

During his reign, he defended the title against several superstars like Randy Orton and Samoa Joe. His reign was pretty good, but the conclusion didn’t fit well with the fans. Kingston lost his title to ‘The Beast’ Brock Lesnar in just eight seconds. 

WWE Universe was shocked to see the events unfold on SmackDown. They were furious at Vince McMahon for this disrespectful end to Kingston’s title reign.  And now another truth regarding this booking has come forward that has left the fans even more agitated. 

The former WWE writer put light on the truth behind the worst booking by Vince McMahon

Recently, the former WWE writer Dave Schilling spoke with the ‘Fightful Select’. There he put light on the truth behind the controversial decision of WWE to put an end to Kingston’s title reign in an abrupt fashion. And the truth is that WWE started planning the end of Kingston’s title reign, just a few days after he won it. 

Schilling revealed that he was working on SmackDown at that time and in April 2019, he found out that the creative was already working on the plan of Brock Lesnar squashing Kofi Kingston in the October same year. He mentioned that the plan was to make Kingston lose his title against Brock Lesnar on SmackDown in a quick match.

Talking about the booking by Vince McMahon, Dave Schilling said, “When he lost to Brock Lesnar, which I found out about in April. We were talking about, ‘the plan is first SmackDown on Fox, Brock is going to come in and win the title and it’s going to be a quick match.’ That’s exactly what happened after I left. That’s the way it turned out.”

Just as this truth came to light fans left jaw-dropped. They started to come online and express their anger via tweets. Some fans are not finding it surprising as this was what Vince McMahon was known for. And, several fans are upset with how the company treated Kofi Kingston.

Further in the interview, Schilling said that he was very proud of Kofi Singston’s storyline and never thought of Kofi as a ‘token champion’, but how it concluded was actually debatable.

He said, “I never felt like that storyline was disrespectful. I never felt that storyline was treated in a way where Kofi came off as a ‘token champion. That was a great storyline and I’m very proud of the small part I had to play in that. We can debate how it turned out in the end.”

Even though Kofi Kingston took the decision of Vince McMahon very well, WWE Universe isn’t happy at all. The main reason behind this anger is that fans finally understand why WWE was not putting much effort into Kofi Kingston’s storylines.

Initially, they thought that it was just because Kingston was a star in the tag team division. But now when the truth has come forward WWE Universe is not happy with Vince McMahon’s deed.
