10 Years After Huge WrestleMania Showdown, John Cena Opens Up on His “Fault” That Created “Huge Space” Between Him and The Rock – “I Did It the Wrong Way”

Over the years, WWE has seen some classic feuds between the top stars of the promotion. But among all of them, one that would stand out always is the public feud between John Cena and Dwayne Johnson. Fans were engrossed in it to a great extent and till now couldn’t get over it. But the stars involves in it seem to have made their peace, as Cena unabashedly takes the blame for taking things too far. 

Avid wrestling fans would remember what went down between Johnson and Cena a decade ago. Even though it’s been 10 years since the huge WrestleMania showdown between the two, things that happened around it will always remain fresh in fans’ minds. The heavily advertised match of 2013 at The Grandest Stage of them all showed Cena defeating Johnson. But then why does The Champ take the blame on him for creating a rift with The Rock?

During his appearance on Notsam Wrestling, The Champ recalled the happenings from 10 years ago that distanced him from The Great One. He then opened up about stepping on the incorrect path just to sell tickets. 

There have been moments during that time when Cena questioned Johnson’s love for wrestling and even accused him of taking the help of notes to cut his promos on live TV. However, a year later, after finally winning against The Rock and the WWE Championship, Cena realized his mistake. 

In the recent podcast, he said, “He couldn’t have been more gracious and I know that the build wasn’t easy on him.”

Following this confession and speaking highly of his former rival, Cena went on appreciating The Rock. His words described how difficult it must have been for Johnson to get defeated by a “cheap shot” during a promo despite having the entire world in his hands.

 Cena explained, “I did it the wrong way, we should have collaborated, we should have talked in hindsight and I should have asked [The Rock] what’s the best way to make us equals, instead I did it myself and in turn created a huge space between us and that was my fault.”

This surely needed courage for Cena to publicly take the blame for the well-known feud between the two. However, he didn’t stop here but also mentioned the dedication that Dwayne Johnson put into the WrestleMania 29 match.

In the podcast, Cena went 10 years back when he wanted to make everything work out for the business. And with that memory came Johnson’s commitment to the business in the picture. 

Cena mentioned The Rock being a star with full attention in the body of work rather than showing off in front of the cameras. 

All in all, it’s quite evident that now the wrestling legends have come a long way from their public feud. Certainly, John Cena accepts his mistake and courageously accepts it in public.
