CM Punk’s return in 2023 brought with it the ghosts of his multiple past controversies to WWE. Many detractors of Punk are waiting to see him involved in a new scandal. It seemed like this came true when Booker T mentioned in a recent Hall of Fame podcast episode that he almost had a run-in with Punk backstage at NXT. However, after several sources came out and revealed that such an incident did not occur, Booker T. now confesses that it was all a joke. He said, “Look, me and CM Punk, we won’t be having a fight, okay? I wanna let everyone know out there. I have no ill will towards CM Punk. Contrary to popular belief, I consider CM Punk a friend. Alright? So when I’m saying something about CM Punk guys, do not take it literally… don’t take it seriously.
Booker T has clarified that his comments about having a "run-in" CM Punk were just a joke for entertainment purposes and he considers Punk a friend:

He further added, “If you hear me say anything here on the Hall of Fame, this show, it’s show-related. I’m trying to entertain my fans. I’m trying to entertain the fans that’s watching this. Trying to give you guys a moment where you ain’t gotta think about that kinda stuff.”
CM Punk is a well-regarded figure in WWE’s developmental territory, The new generation of the promotion labels The Second City Saint as someone who is “helpful and open” to people who approach him for advice. The five-time world champion’s words sparked frustration, especially considering The Best in the World’s history of backstage altercations.
As has been the case in the past, the WWE legend’s words were intended to attract attraction and do not have their basis set in reality. A similar case occurred in 2018 when the two-time WWE Hall of Famer made statements against Corey Graves, which resulted in a prank put together by both that fooled many. But this time it seems like the fans aren’t taking it lightly as they are voicing their opinion against the Hall of Famer.
Fans speak out against Booker T
Looks like fans have had enough of Booker T’s habit of exaggerating claims. His tendency to make such statements to attract more listeners did not sit well with the WWE Universe. In fact, they took to social media to speak out against the Hall of Famer. Here are some of the reactions:
This fan believes that Booker T would’ve left WWE by now if Vince McMahon ran the ship currently.
A shitty move by Booker, and considering that he is one of the two extremely annoying voices on commentary (along with Nigel), he would have gone by now if it was Vince's era

One fan revealed that he never had respect for WWE stars who often make such controversial statements.

This fan is disappointed that the WWE legend would stoop so low and try to tarnish a fellow superstar’s reputation.
I have lost even the smallest shred respect I had for him. It's pretty fucked up to make baseless rumors to hurt someone's reputation.

One thinks that it is Booker T’s attempt at staying relevant now.
Course not booker is just trying to stay relevant

This fan is annoyed that superstars like Booker won’t let an injured Punk stay at peace.
@Teffo_01 , part of me that laughs at this cause it’s just a tactic for booker to get more listeners to his podcast. But, there’s a big part of me that thinks it’s annoying considering the fact that punk is rehabbing and just being helpful to the young talent. What do you think?
