Brock Lesnar was presented as a top star from the moment when he debuted in WWE in 2002. The company pushed him to the top quickly and once wanted The Beast Incarnate to defeat Stone Cold Steve Austin. But that didn’t happen and recently The Texas Rattlesnake shared his views on WWE wanting him to put over a young Lesnar in the King of the Ring tournament.

In a recent interview, the 2009 WWE Hall of Famer shared his thoughts on why he didn’t wrestle Lesnar back in the day.

Stone Cold Steve Austin finally speaks on his match with Brock Lesnar

The infamous story of Austin walking out from a match with ‘The Conqueror is well known. This happened during the King of the Ring 2002 when Lesnar was on the path to becoming ‘The Next Big Thing’.

Over the years, The Rattlesnake has stated several times he regrets not facing The Beast back then. However, he shed light on the same in a recent interview with Wesh 2 News with Belal Jaber. The host asked him which star he would like to wrestle if given a chance again.

The six-time WWE Champion said, “That guy is Brock Lesnar. Way back in the day, I was scheduled to wrestle him in Atlanta at a television taping. The match wasn’t great as far as creative goes, so it never happened. That’s the match that got away.”

Stone Cold wanted a proper build-up and storyline before stepping into the ring with Lesnar. As there wasn’t any story behind their match, he refused to face an upcoming top WWE star, Lesnar, and infamously walked out.

Furthermore, The Beast has also claimed he has no bad blood with Steve Austin for the same. However, fans wished they would have seen this match back then.

Stone Cold shows his respect for Lesnar

Even though Austin walked away from a match with Lesnar, they are good friends today. Lesnar knows the WWE legend did it because of a reason. However, The Rattlesnake praised Lesnar for his outstanding career in WWE and UFC.

The 58-year-old said, “I have so much respect for Brock and watching him go through the evolution of becoming one of the best pros out there. To go into the MMA world and become a world champion. He’s had a heck of a journey and no one has had a career like his and his longevity has been supreme. Brock Lesnar would be my answer.”
