“Something Really Cool” – 4 Months After His WrestleMania Win, Austin Theory Reveals His Actual Post-Match Conversation With John Cena

Austin Theory is a perfect example of a star who worked very hard to turn his idols into his rivals. Despite receiving flak from the WWE Universe, Austin Theory triumphed over John Cena at the Grandest Stage, WrestleMania 39. Although the 26-year-old used underhanded tactics to secure his win, he recently revealed how he cherished his post-match conversation with John Cena. 

For nearly a year leading up to WrestleMania 39, Theory had been angling to go up against his childhood hero. The discussions about their showdown originated with John Cena’s comeback to WWE, coinciding with his 20th anniversary with the company.

Nonetheless, Theory defeated Cena at WrestleMania, much to the chagrin of fans. But behind the scenes, he received great advice from the 16-time World Champion. 

Austin Theory reveals what John Cena told him after their WrestleMania match

While speaking with The Babyfaces Podcast, Austin Theory revealed how he shared a great moment with John Cena after their match. According to him, John Cena urged him to enjoy the moment after their match at WrestleMania 39. 

He said, “It was a really cool moment. He ( John Cena) just told me to enjoy this day and enjoy this moment, and, literally, there was no stress that day whatsoever. I wasn’t nervous; I was just… everything that prepared me for that moment, everything that I had to do to, you know, go out there and perform, I felt like I had it and  that was something really cool”

Furthermore, Theory respected Cena’s stance on encouraging individuals to embrace failure without fear. Although Theory had a rough couple of months before he won the United States Championship, he solidified his spot as the top star in the company by defeating John Cena. 

After Theory defeated John Cena, he went on a winning spree, successfully retaining his US Title in every match. However, he recently lost his championship to Rey Mysterio. Interestingly, there’s a belief that John Cena is responsible for Austin Theory’s failure as US Champion.

Theory defeated LA Knight on SmackDown to earn his rematch for the US Championship against Rey Mysterio. Anyway, even though Theory humiliated John Cena at WrestleMania 39, he credits Cena for spurring him on to pursue a wrestling career. 

Austin Theory once revealed that he idolized John Cena as an 8-year-old child

Before Cena got a taste of the A-Town Down, he was adulated by his WrestleMania opponent many, many years ago. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet in 2021, Austin Theory revealed that he was only 8 years old when he took inspiration from John Cena.

Theory also relayed that he would wear tennis wristbands because he could not afford John Cena merchandise. Fast forward many years later, Theory defeated his childhood idol to retain the US Championship. It’s strange how destiny brought the 26-year-old one-on-one with his role model.
