The two were feuding to claim the Intercontinental Title of WWE. Due to the dominating nature of the current champion, Gunther, there was little room to maneuver a path to victory. The Austrian wrestler retained his position but not without putting up an interesting match.

While Sheamus was trying to win the only title he had not won in WWE, McIntyre was trying to complete a whole circle out of his WWE career.
