In his recent appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast, the 48-year-old revealed a shocking story about his life and career which was unknown for many years. Speaking to Logan Paul, he would speak about his painkiller addiction problem, and how he overcame it.
Mysterio is currently involved in a heated feud with his own son, Dominik Mysterio. The father-son duo recently faced each other in a match at WrestleMania 39, where Rey Mysterio secured a win over his son after help from Bad Bunny.

During his appearance on Impaulsive, Rey Mysterio would reveal how during the peak of his career, he would suffer from painkiller addiction problems, and it was his wife, who helped him recover and overcome that phase in his life. It was the first time Mysterio revealed something like this related to his personal and professional life.
How did Rey Mysterio overcome his painkiller addiction problem?
One of the most popular and beloved superstars of all time, Mysterio suffered from his own inner demons during the peak of his career in WWE. He had a lot of surgeries and had to use painkillers in order to fight off the rigors of being in the ring. Speaking on Impaulsive, he would open up on his painkiller addiction issues, and how it led to a tense moment with his wife.

Mysterio would further reveal that it was his wife that brought him out of his addiction and helped him fight it. He said, “During my big run in WWE, and after so many surgeries, I got hooked on painkillers for a very long time and my wife caught me one time.”

The WWE Hall of Famer would claim that his wife would then give him an ultimatum, that changed him. He said, “we were on vacation and she saw that I was just out of it completely. So she gave me an ultimatum, and she goes, ‘So when we get back home you can either take your pills or you can take your family, you choose.’ And that really opened me up and it made me a stronger person.”
His hard in-ring career and multiple surgeries made him inclined toward painkillers. However, the ultimatum from his wife made him change his lifestyle, take a break from WWE by speaking to Vince McMahon, and ultimately improve his life.
