Scott D’Amore’s Firing: TNA Talents Express Frustration Over Recent Drastic Change

January 2024 marked a significant step toward WWE’s partnership with TNA. Because of the latter’s deal with Endeavor and the women’s Royal Rumble event, the future looked promising between the two promotions. Unfortunately for many fans, the president of TNA who was highly involved in this decision was fired by its parent company.

TNA’s decision backfired

On February 7th, TNA broke out the news that Scott D’Amore would be replaced by Anthony Cicione moving forward who would be working directly under Anthem, the parent company. Contrary to how TNA was working up until now, in its corner, the parent company will be overseeing several functions. However, this change didn’t sit right with the workforce inside the company.

After around a week, Fightful Select broke the news that the staff working in the wrestling company had written a letter to Anthem, requesting them to have a chat with the rest of the talents about the decision. “It is our desire to have a dialogue with you and with the company in an effort to protect the present and the future of TNA/Impact for you, for Anthem, for the fans, and for professional wrestlers,” the letter reads.

The talents in the company have also made their stance clear about the removal of Scott D’Amore, as part of the letter also says, “We are deeply saddened by the decision to remove Scott D’Amore from the TNA/Impact family.” Since the former president was also working closely with WWE, it could bring some issues to the table.

WWE may also support this move by TNA workers

While the Stamford-based company hasn’t spoken openly about the changes in TNA management, it has still hinted that it values the partnership. After the Royal Rumble 2024, Triple H sat down in the press conference to answer the questions that fans may have about WWE. During the public interview, somebody listed the WWE-TNA crossover for the night as a ‘forbidden door’ moment.

This term infuriated Paul Levesque and he asked the media to not use this ‘outdated’ term for any of WWE’s partnerships with other promotions. Triple H defended TNA. And since most of the partnership was done by Scott D’Amore, WWE may also be affected by the shift in powers. Although WWE wouldn’t directly support the TNA staff retaliating against the decision, they might appreciate if their campaign succeeds.
