No matter what promotion houses him, it seems that CM Punk is the constant villain on social media. Months have passed since The Devil found his way back to his old promotion following an AEW firing. While his monumental return was met with a rousing reception from the Chicago crowd, it seems netizens are still skeptical about Punk’s loyalty to the Stamford-based company. It has been triggered even further after the Second City Saint came up with a warm, happy birthday post for AEW’s Samoa Joe.
CM Punk stirs up controversy by wishing his former AEW peer a happy birthday
Although CM Punk had a tumultuous time in Tony Khan’s promotion for the last few years, he made a few good buddies there. One of those close peers is Samoa Zoe who recently celebrated his 45th birthday. Despite Punk not being able to be there for his on-screen rival and real-life friend on his special day, he wished Joe over an IG story. He posted a photo of him alongside Zoe and Brody King from AEW All In London last year with the caption, ”Happy birthday to my brothers you shouldn’t head butt.”

Despite Punk covering the AEW logo in the picture as a sign of his untampered adherence to WWE, fans still ain’t refraining from bashing him like always. In response to a popular twitter account lauding Punk for trying not to promote the company, several netizens pointed out that it still counted as promotion anyway.
Fans cast doubt on the ultimate motive of CM Punk’s edited happy birthday post
CM Punk had a tumultuous working relationship with the AEW head honcho for five years which had heavily been in the public eye up until the last day of Punk’s AEW tenure. Punk caused trouble for AEW’s reputation in 2022 following his infamous tussle with The Elite and finally, he sealed fate last year after getting embroiled in a similar kind of controversy with Jack Perry. But after all these skirmishes and ill-treatment, fans believe Punk secretly hopes to add himself back to Khan’s good book again.

Another fan jokingly pointed out the recent near-altercation Punk had with Booker T, stating that Punk might want to avoid anymore backstage clashes.
I guess CM Punk is scared of Booker T and wants back in AEW

Despite Punk covering up the logo, one netizen pointed out that any promotion is good promotion for the rival wrestling company.
By posting this, showing a Wembley that nearly sold out, and aew talent only promotes the company anyway. You nerd.

AEW fans, on the other hand, also keep echoing the anti-CM Punk voice.
