Sami Zayn Breaks Silence on Main-Eventing WrestleMania 39 Weeks After Charlotte Flair Openly Fired Shots at WWE for Not Being in the Main Event: “It’s a Bit Surreal”

The WWE Universe couldn’t stop swooning when the company announced the main event for WrestleMania Day 1. For Day 2, it was clear that Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes were going to close the night, but for Day 1, it was unclear. But when WWE revealed that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are going to the main event, fans went crazy with joy.

However, it didn’t fit that well with the WWE superstar Charlotte Flair as she was also the leading candidate for the same. While Flair had already expressed her views on the WrestleMania 39 main event not involving her and Rhea Ripley, everyone was waiting for Sami Zayn’s words. And now after 46 days of ‘Mania, the former ‘Honorary Uce’ finally opened up about it.

Sami Zayn opens up about main-eventing WrestleMania 39 with Kevin Owens

In the latest episode of the podcast ‘Mark Andrews: My Love Letter to Wrestling’, the WWE superstar Sami Zayn appeared as the special guest. There, he talked about several things but his opinion about main-eventing WrestleMania with his best friend Kevin Owens was the highlight.

Zayn said that a tag team championship match at WrestleMania’s main event might have sounded weird and unlikely 20 years ago but in the present it’s surreal. However, he mentioned that ‘The Bloodline’ was the hottest thing for a year straight and if you were involved in that storyline, it’s obvious that you would be the one at the main event.

Talking to the host, Sami Zayn said, “It’s a bit surreal I suppose… but’s weird because there’s…..these two things happening at once….. Because you are living in the present so when you are in the present you are like ‘oh yeah, naturally’ …for example…If you asked us 20 years ago about main-eventing WrestleMania as a tag team…it’s absolutely insane, unlikely, you wouldn’t even bother wasting time thinking about it.”

He further explained, “But then fast forward twenty years…you are in the Bloodline angle, Bloodline is the hottest thing for a year …..It’s time to pick a main event we were right there …..you are like ‘Of course, we are gonna be the main event’. It’s right there.”

Not only this but the tag team champion Sami Zayn also talked about how special it was to have Kevin Owens by his side at Mania 39.

Later in the podcast, the former ‘Honorary Uce’ also talked about how he felt while closing day 1 of WrestleMania 39 with his best friend Kevin Owens.

He said that Owens always makes the special moments more special by reminding him where he came from as he himself walked on the same road.

“If you think stepping out of that shoes and you try to rewind the 20 years prior ….you are like ‘Man can you imagine how did we end up here’ …That’s about having Kevin as a friend on the road and a guy who I continue to share my career with…….. reminds you where you came from because he came from the same place.”

Even though both the tag team championship match and the SmackDown women’s championship match were phenomenal, the main reason Charlotte Flair was not happy about WWE’s decision is the uncertainty of the women’s Royal Rumble winner being in the main event of Mania.
