Goldberg is a force of nature who would make most athletes think twice before they got in the ring with him. He is known to lay waste to wrestling juggernauts as he did in the case of Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series in 2016. In spite of such carnage, ex-Intercontinental champion Ryback has not been afraid to lock horns with Goldberg.

Ryback has been lobbying for a match with Goldberg for quite some time now but to no avail. In his most recent attempt, Ryback expressed that Goldberg might be afraid of getting in the ring with him.

Ryback was with WWE from 2010 to 2016 and during this time he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship once. His last match was in 2016 at Payback where he lost while trying to win the United States Championship.

He then left the WWE due to creative differences and also to cater to a back and shoulder injury. The wrestler hopped on several independent circuits sporadically, before ultimately retiring in 2018. But recently he has expressed his urge to fight the indomitable Goldberg. He has also tried setting up meetings for the same, but to no avail.

After many unsuccessful attempts to set up a match, Ryback now thinks that Goldberg is afraid to face him in the ring. During his last livestream, he said, “There is a good possibility that Goldberg is scared of me and does not want to face an opponent of my size or stature for his last match. That is a very realistic possibility.”

But this is not the first time that Ryback has tried to fight Goldberg.

WWE rejected a match between Ryback and Goldberg

The last time Goldberg was seen in the ring was at the Elimination Chamber in March, where he lost to Roman Reigns in an attempt to break The Tribal Chief’s title reign. While the juggernaut has managed to take on many in the ring, Ryback has still been declined as an opponent. Ryback had apparently pitched a match between himself and Goldberg to the management during his WWE tenure but was flatly rejected.

Goldberg’s contract ended in 2022, and now he is a free agent. Goldberg has also expressed in the past that he is looking for a retirement match as he didn’t get one when he was in the WWE. Hence, Ryback has been open about his efforts to get in touch with Goldberg’s promoter to set up a retirement match.

Goldberg is yet to respond to Ryback’s disrespect. But maybe this trash-talking from Ryback might just give him the match he has been wanting for so long.
