No story has got fans by the chokehold, unlike the feud for the WWE Championship. Brewing since Cody Rhodes’ return at the Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns and the American Nightmare grabbed everyone’s attention through their segments together. Since their match was confirmed, the two stars haven’t missed making headlines.
Reigns’ has dragged everything from Dusty Rhodes to Rhodes’ past as Stardust in this feud to get into Rhodes’ head. But every time, the American Nightmare snapped back at Reigns with a snarky yet respectful comment himself. Just before WrestleMania, their last encounter once again made big news, but this time fans are focusing on one particular action by the champion himself.

In their last meeting, Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes took the mic for the last time before their big match this Sunday. Just like always, both stars were on top of their game when it came to trading threats and insults with ease. But one thing struck as odd in the entire segment. After Reigns ends the promo, he lifted the WWE Championship over Rhodes’ head.
While Reigns is the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, the Tribal Chief lifted only the WWE title. This could mean multiple things based on the story that Reigns and Rhodes are painting. The first thing is that, as Rhodes has pointed out multiple times, no one in his family was able to capture the WWE title. He will win it for them. So, to put him down just like Paul Heyman and Reigns have done previously, he lifted the WWE title over him.

But it could also mean the one thing that fans have wanted since Reigns won both championships, the Universal title being disbanded. This segment could have been a subtle hint toward that direction.
After his glorious win over Rhodes, Reigns could unify the titles; or Rhodes could declare that he only wants to be the WWE Championship after his victory. But the most unlikely one could be that Reigns botched it and he was supposed to lift both titles but forgot. But given the storytelling till now, it seems highly unlikely. The WWE universe quickly took to the internet to share their theories and speculating regarding the segment.
Fans start wildly speculating after the recent segment on WWE SmackDown
By raising the WWE title in the air, Reigns has sent the fans to grab any and every clue to support their speculation. From the titles being separated, to Reigns completing his 1000 days as champion, to Paul Heyman and contracts, everything is involved in these speculations.

Need a title split after Wrestlemania. Cody keeps the WWE championship and do a tournament to crown a new universal champion

Nice touch knowing it was the title that eluded Dusty in ‘77, Goldust in ‘96 and Cody right up to 2023.

Storytelling at its best!
Beacuse it's the title his dad never won, no other reason. It's litteraly what Cody's whole story since last year has been about, simple yet effective storytelling

So many fans included Heyman as a crucial piece of the puzzle in their speculation.
Think Paul has something up his sleeve, talking privately with Roman, no contact signing, seems very suspicious

Honestly why y’all wanted to split the titles? It was actually better when there is one champion because that’s what makes him THE champion. Just unify both titles at this point. An brand exclusive champion is dead at this point.

This displays the hold that this story has on the entire fanbase. Just with one move, Reigns has sent everyone to try to figure out the meaning behind his simple move. With only two days left for the main event match, the hype for this match couldn’t be higher.
