Roman Reigns Closing In on WrestleMania Feat That John Cena and Dwayne Johnson Never Achieved Despite Sharing 26 Championships Between Them

Dwayne The Rock Johnson is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in Hollywood today. Before he was raking in the multi-million dollar checks, The Rock was a household name in the WWE Universe. After he made his switch, Vince McMahon turned his attention to John Cena, the franchise star, to steer the company.

The Cenation Leader’s dedication was justly rewarded as he went on to equal WWE legend Ric Flair’s 16 world championships before moving to Hollywood. The Rock, in comparison, isn’t too far behind. The Brahma Bull is a 10x world champion. When observed closely, both Cena and Johnson’s career has an eerie similarity- they have been the top performers in the WWE before making it big in Hollywood.

However, even with all the gold between them, neither has achieved the special feat that Roman Reigns is poised for.

Roman Reigns to become the first superstar to defend world title under a single reign at 3 consecutive WrestleManias

When Roman Reigns locks horns with Cody Rhodes for their title match on Sunday at the SoFi Stadium, it will be his 944th consecutive day as champion. Though there have been five more reigns longer than his, The Tribal Chief will be the first superstar to defend a world title under one single reign at three consecutive WrestleManias.

The achievement is no mean feat, as it highlights Reigns’ longevity and star power.

In 2021, he defeated Edge and Daniel Bryan in a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 37 to keep the Universal Championship intact. The following year, he not only retained his title but also took the WWE Championship belt from Brock Lesnar to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

This year, Cody Rhodes will have a chance to loot The Big Dog’s golds. 

Did Roman Reigns reveal his match result during his latest interaction with Cody Rhodes?

Both Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes have cut some memorable promos while setting up their big high-stakes WrestleMania clash. While Cody Rhodes has been a bit understated in his approach, Roman Reigns has dragged the former’s deceased father, WWE legend Dusty Rhodes, and his Stardust gimmick to unsettle the challenger.

During the course of these exchanges, the two have infused enough suspense to keep the fans hooked. The match is evenly poised and there isn’t a clear favorite as of now. Yet, during their last meeting, Reigns may have unwittingly disclosed the match result.

After Reigns ended the promo, he lifted only the WWE belt over his challenger’s head, despite carrying the Universal title as well.

It is no secret that Cody Rhodes, a second-generation WWE star, wants to win the WWE Championship title as no one from his family- father Dusty and half-brother Dustin (Goldust)- has been able to capture the prestigious title so far.

Reigns’ action could either mock Rhodes’ aspirations or it could have been a botch. For now, Reigns still sits pretty as the champion and will step into the ring in that capacity on Sunday’s mega event for the third year in a row.
