However, amidst the chaos caused by the magnitude of the news, an old possibility of his WWE return has surfaced. According to Fightful.com, CM Punk was considering a return to WWE in December 2022 after the events of the All Out media scrum last year.
According to Fightful Select, “Those close to Punk claim that around December 2022, Punk was open to leaving AEW, and even encouraged the idea so he could make a WWE return.” In fact, CM Punk could have made an Edge-style return by featuring in the 2023 Royal Rumble.
Further discussed plans included a feud between CM Punk and the wrestler who would have eliminated him at the Rumble. The name of Canadian CannonBall, Kevin Owens was recommended for the job.
After All Out last year in September, CM Punk went after the EVPs of AEW during the media scrum while Tony Khan was present. Afterward, Punk was confronted by The Elite, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega leading to a brawl. Following this all the involved parties were suspended.
The end of the road for Punk?
The idea was to bring CM Punk back start a heated feud and take it to WrestleMania. However, no concrete proof exists to confirm whether these ideas were actually tabled or not. The WWE Universe stands divided on whether or not CM Punk would make a return to WWE. Things are not looking good for the 44-year-old so far, as this is the second major contract termination for him.
