Last month, WWE left a part of its universe reeling in shock as the promotion released 20 superstars in a few days. While they have not yet made the plans for most of these released stars public, one wrestler, a 37-year-old former champion, has stated his vision.

The move could see him join the likes of WWE Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan. So, who is this person? Let’s find out.

The former Raw Tag Team Champion is one of the 20 superstars to have been released by WWE during the mass layoff in September, shortly after WWE and the UFC merged together to form TKO- a $21.4 billion company. Matt Riddle has since teased several career options.

According to reports, two MMA promotions showed interest in Riddle. Yes, you read that right. In case you’re wondering what Riddle’s connection with MMA is- he was in the UFC before joining the WWE.

On the other hand, Matt Riddle shared a story on his Instagram account recently that revealed his next venture- releasing his own cannabis strain. The former WWE United States Champion, who played a barefoot surfer gimmick in the promotion, is now embarking on a similar business as Flair and Hogan.

The two WWE icons, who had a famed rivalry during their heydays, now own brands that sell CBD products. They are managed by the same company that was projected to triple its revenue to $160 million in 2023 from $50 million in 2022.

Interestingly, Riddle has a past with cannabis and its usage, which led to his firing from a job a decade ago.

The use of marijuana once cost Matt Riddle his livelihood. Back in 2013, he was released by the UFC after he failed two drug tests in a span of seven months. According to the fighter, he had tested positive for marijuana. As part of their process for breaking regulations, Riddle was cut off from the promotion’s payroll.

Now, 10 years later, he aims to make money by selling the same substance that once negatively affected his livelihood. Talk about turning the tables!

WWE fans, especially Riddle’s supporters, will be waiting for him to make a comeback into the company in the future. Maybe he’ll be able to turn his weaknesses into his strengths like he did with the latest move. Till then, we’ll have to wait for his announcement to find out more.
