If you are a Dwayne Johnson fan, look away! Your favorite superstar’s most electrifying move has finally met its match. As usual, with two of anything similar, there’s bound to be a comparison. And this was no exception, either.

The verdict has been in favor of the other move as people wholeheartedly supported it while expressing their awe. The move we’re talking about here is the famed ‘The People’s Elbow’, a maneuver that catapulted The Rock to stardom. But how did it start and why is it in the news again?

The People’s Elbow was created to make opponents break their character

Johnson made his debut in WWE in 1996 as Rocky Maivia. It wasn’t until the next year that he used his signature move. According to Triple H, one of Johnson’s iconic rivals, the elbow drop was invented by The Great One as a measure to force his opponents to break character.

The Game was admittedly the first recipient of The People’s Elbow in 1997. Talking to Greg James of BBC Radio 1, Hunter, who dropped his Intercontinental Championship to The Rock on February 13, 1997, said that the said move didn’t even have a name and Johnson just used his wit to come up with a name spontaneously.

However, The Brahma Bull isn’t the creator of the move. He took inspiration from WWE Hall of Fames Dusty Rhodes and The Great Muta and came up with his version of the elbow drop.

Rhodes, affectionately known as The American Dream, used the Bionic Elbow, while Muta, a Japanese pro wrestling legend, had a maneuver that closely resembled The Rock’s. Muta’s move was called the Flashing Elbow. According to Muta, Johnson even admitted mimicking the move, to the wrestler, during their meeting. But Johnson’s move was more energetic in nature and it also included crowd interaction, rendering it more dramatic than the other two.

However, all three versions of the elbow drop lack energy in comparison to the Superstar Elbow.

Fans in awe as Japanese wrestler’s high-flying elbow drops trumps over The People’s Elbow

Taiji Ishimori is no novice to pro wrestling. In fact, he made his debut in the early 2000s. However, it took the world several years to get introduced to his acrobatics. Recently, a clip of him performing his ‘Superstar Elbow’ went viral on the internet. The move is akin to Johnson’s elbow drop but is much more dangerous as it involves somersaults.

The clip attracted a lot of comments, including from wrestling insiders, and social media users couldn’t keep calm. They deemed it more potent than The People’s Elbow.
