Dwayne Johnson is on the top of the mountain in Hollywood today. The same was the case for The Rock during the Attitude Era. If anyone got a win over ‘The Brahma Bull’, he quickly went on the top of the card in WWE. As our history serves correctly, a WWE Legend who was in his rookie year pinned Johnson for the WWE Championship. 

The WWE legend is none other than the Olympic gold medalist, Kurt Angle. The WWE Hall of Famer recently shared how he felt after pinning The Rock.

Kurt Angle quickly grasped the fundamentals of the wrestling business and got on the top of the WWE card. He was so good that WWE put him in a WWE Championship match at No Mercy 2000 against The Rock.

‘The Wrestling Machine’ defeated Johnson for the WWE title, who was just 11 months into the business. While speaking on his podcast The Kurt Angle Show, the 54-year-old shared what were his feelings when he went backstage.

Angle said, “You know you feel really good, it’s an emotional high. I didn’t cry or anything like I did. But yeah, it gives you high.”

The former four-time WWE Champion added, “It makes you know that this company has a trust in you to make you their world champion. That is so important because when you have their trust, you know you’re doing something right.”

While ‘The Great One’ and Stone Cold Steve Austin were the top stars of WWE in the Attitude Era, Angle swooped in as a top dog. He became another important WWE superstar that defined the Attitude Era.

Furthermore, Angle a couple of years ago mentioned The Rock is his favorite WWE star to work with. DJ elevated the WWE Hall of Famer back in 2000 and Angle’s wrestling skills skyrocketed since then.

Kurt Angle’s first year in WWE had a monumental trajectory

The Wrestling Machine joined WWE in 1998 and started honing his skills by training in the company. By the end of 1999, Kurt Angle made his televised debut for WWE, but it took several months to be a mainstream star.

A couple of years ago, Angle told on his podcast about taking a backseat to The Rock and Austin in 1999. At that time, he was trying to make a name for himself as a WWE superstar.

He won the European Championship and the Intercontinental Championship in February 2000. However, he lost them at WrestleMania in an emotional affair. However, seven months later he pinned The Rock for the WWE title. The Olympic medalist certainly enjoyed a fruitful spell in the wrestling promotion. Moreover, his sensational first year in the company no doubt played a part in enhancing his legacy as a WWE superstar.
