Home/WWE

CM Punk’s return to the WWE is still standing its ground, maintaining a strong following. Now that he is back, there is still no certainty about the brand he could choose moving forward in the company. Amidst all this, contrasting opinions have emerged, with some asserting that he could join RAW and others advocating for SmackDown. However, this is yet to be determined.

A few days after his return, sources reported that he was on a several-year contract with the WWE and would have frequent appearances on Raw and a few on SmackDown. This could hint at why Raw is a strong candidate to welcome the services of Punk.

SmackDown already has guys like Randy Orton and LA Knight

Remember Survivor Series Wargames? The event was much anticipated not only because of its main event but also for Randy Orton, who was announced to be back in the swing of things. Moreover, one week later on SmackDown, it was announced that the blue brand was going to be his official home in the WWE. At this point, two major candidates can be booked to face Roman Reigns, and Randy Orton is one of them.

The other name is LA Knight, who also believes that his story with The Bloodline is not over. With this, the inclusion of CM Punk in SmackDown will only complicate the storyline rather than sort it out. Punk’s foremost reason to be a part of a brand is the major strap in that brand. Given LA Knight and Randy Orton as the two biggest names on the blue brand, WWE might not consider Punk for SmackDown but for RAW.

Also, the prime guy to end the story with Reigns could be Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, and the fans want to see him halt that historic championship run. With so many wrestlers eyeing Reigns, the WWE might not plan for Punk to join SmackDown.

World Heavyweight title could be a bait for CM Punk

Nobody can deny the fact that CM Punk has returned to the WWE to win a major title in the company. As speculated above, SmackDown’s Undisputed WWE Universal Championship mightn’t be an option considering Punk, so RAW general manager Adam Pearce could dangle the carrot in the form of the world heavyweight championship to bring Punk to RAW.

This could be the easiest way in the storyline to entice the ‘Second City Saint’. Well, Pearce used the same method to attract Randy Orton to SmackDown, but The Viper had plans to wreak havoc in return for what The Bloodline did to him a few years ago. Although Punk has won the heavyweight strap before in the WWE, it is still the best possible reason for Punk’s storyline to progress.

Considering a long list of contenders for Roman Reigns’ title on SmackDown, the only major title left for Punk is the world heavyweight title, which is on Raw.

Seth Rollins could be another reason for Punk to join RAW

Let’s just not forget the ongoing friction between CM Punk and Seth Rollins. The resurrection of past vendettas surely makes their tale intriguing to watch. Well, the echoes of ‘Cult of Personality’ are still resonating in the ears of the fans; however, it was Seth Rollins who showed his resentment when ‘The Best in the World’ shocked the All-State Arena. That was just a small glimpse of the tensions between both bigwigs.

The history reveals a barrage of verbal spats that took place since Punk was going through a wrestling break. It was in 2019 when the fans saw CM Punk as a critic on the WWE Backstage Show on Fox. This was when their wordplay showdown ignited and was taken to X (then Twitter) by both men. On one hand, Rollins challenged Punk to a match, and on the other hand, Punk, being a straight shooter, refused his challenge and asked him to shut his mouth.

Another instance could be taken from Seth Rollins’ interview with Wrestling Inc. This was a few days after CM Punk’s first backstage controversy with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks at AEW in 2022. After Punk’s suspension, Rollins was asked if he should return to the WWE; addressing the same, he asked Punk to stay away and even called him a cancer. This series of incidents lays bare how WWE has a perfect opportunity to draw a beef between both stars. So, to make that happen, Punk could join RAW, and the storyline with Rollins won’t be less than a roller coaster ride for the fans. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments.
