For most hardcore wrestling fans, Hulk Hogan was born with a mustache. The icon of the late 80s and 90s was easily recognizable for his long locks and horseshoe mustache. Being one of the most famous wrestlers of that time, his image was everywhere. However, according to the Hulkster, fans could still recognize him without his iconic mustache.

Since his debut in the WWE, Hogan sported a mustache that would later become as iconic as Hogan himself. But did you know that there was a time when Hogan was clean-shaven? 

Hulk Hogan was recognized even without his mustache

As mentioned earlier, Hogan’s mustache was not just for style; it became part of his iconic appearance. Be it WWE or WCW, Hogan kept the mustache. However, what many fans do not know is that there was a point in time when Hogan was clean-shaven. Yes, a stash-less Hogan.

While on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Hogan was asked about his iconic mustache. According to O’Brien, Hogan’s mustache was so iconic that no disguise would help him escape recognition. On the contrary, Hogan responded that he couldn’t escape the fans despite being clean-shaven and wearing a black wig. “You know people still recognize me,” he said.

During a feud with the heel stable Dungeon of Doom in the late 90s, Hogan was ambushed by the group. The Big Show, known as The Giant, knocked him out and shaved off his iconic mustache. The action was supposed to unleash a different version of Hogan. However, he was eventually back to his golden stash within a few weeks.

As he told O’Brien, he was filming some of his low-budget movies. He also made it clear that even without his iconic mustache, people could still recognize him. This shows just how big Hulkamania was at its peak. However, this would not be the first or last time Hogan would drastically change his looks.

While the Hulkamania version of Hogan is the best-remembered version of the wrestler, he has undergone multiple drastic changes to his appearance. As mentioned earlier, during the feud with Dungeon of Doom, his mustache wasn’t the only change in his appearance. Bringing out the dark side of Hogan, he would wear a cape and a mask to cut promos.

If there is one version of the Hulkster that fans remember the most after Hulkamania, it’s Hollywood Hogan. Hogan was clad in all black during this run, featuring a bold and brash attitude. It would also be the second time he would go clean-shaven for a few weeks. Another iconic feature of this look was the dark stubble he kept. Although he would grow out his mustache once more, the stubble remained.
