After Heyman joined WWE in 2001, Vince McMahon and WWE had other plans for him. It included another former wrestling star, it was not Lesnar.
Recently, during a podcast interview, the former advocate of The Beast Incarnate explained how the initial plan was to have him alongside Chris Benoit, but later Vince McMahon changed his mind and paired Heyman with Lesnar.
He said, “So, I put together a couple of matches of his, it was two that week, and two the next. And the opponents were the same, Spike Dudley and Funaki. I knew they would make him look like what he needed to look like. And the night before Vince comes to me and says, ‘I am not gonna put you with Benoit.'”
At first, Heyman was relieved to be out of television, but he was soon bombarded with other news. Heyman continued, “He then says, ‘I am gonna put you with Brock Lesnar’. And I just said, ‘Bingo! Okay.’ The money! Oh my God! You just gave me a completely new life. Cause I knew, you want me to talk for this guy? Okay! This is the easiest job in the world.”
Brock Lesnar has always been one of the big-money drawing athletes on the roster, and Heyman himself also believed that his alliance with Lesnar was a pivotal moment in his career, and both of their careers experienced a massive change after this.
