In the wrestling industry, to be a “Paul Heyman Guy/Gal” is considered to be a badge of honor. The ECW head honcho helped catapult the careers of numerous superstars. Being a revered name in the business, Heyman’s views on the product are often taken into consideration. That said, Paul Heyman recently said that WWE should rely on homegrown female talents over Ronda Rousey to help inflict a change in the women’s division.

While Ronda Rousey is as tough as they come, she has always received flak for her wrestling skills. However, wrestling skills aside, Ronda Rousey was already a major star before she started running the ropes of the squared circle. The former female UFC Champion did not have to struggle as much as others to make a name for herself in the WWE. And Paul Heyman prefers other female talents to be the catalyst for change in the women’s division.

Paul Heyman thinks giving “homegrown” female talents better opportunities over “outside world” celebrities like Ronda Rousey could help wrestling reach heights it never has. While speaking on Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin, Heyman weighed in on how he believes WWE could transcend wrestling from the status quo to a greater height.

Heyman listed out the names of female talents that he sees fit to help redefine modern-day wrestling.

According to the Wiseman, “inclusive storylines” could help legitimize pro wrestling. Heyman said, “Inclusive storylines. A Transgender hero. A female that competes at the same level, with the same marketing behind her as any of the male competitors. That’s not Ronda Rousey from the outside world coming in as a celebrity. But a homegrown Rhea Ripley or Bianca Belair or Charlotte Flair or Becky Lynch or Bayley or Nattie or any of these fantastic performers that we have on the roster”

There was a time when women were largely portrayed as eye candy in wrestling entertainment. But WWE leveled the playing field for female talents over the years. Female superstars like Chyna, Trish, Lita, and many others became the trailblazers of women’s wrestling in WWE. As time passed, women started getting better opportunities.

At present, Rhea Ripley is as one of the front runners in the women’s division. Aside from dominating women, The Eradicator is also a threat to the men’s division.

Meanwhile, as dominant as Ronda Rousey is, she did not have to scratch and claw for opportunities in WWE from the gate. But make no mistake, Ronda Rousey is one of the toughest women on the roster today. And her moniker, The Baddest Woman on the Planet is no misnomer.

Despite Heyman’s statements, Ronda Rousey was still one of the few superstars that Heyman almost ended up managing after Brock Lesnar.

Before Paul Heyman became the Wiseman for The Tribal Chief, he was widely known as the advocate for Brock Lesnar. However, after he split with Lesnar, Heyman was open to managing Ronda Rousey. But, Vince McMahon proposed for Heyman to become the Wise Counsel for Roman Reigns.

Further during the interview, Heyman revealed how close he came to managing Ronda Rousey. He said, “One of the few names on this list was Roman Reigns. Another was Brock Lesnar obviously. Another was Ronda Rousey.”
