A section of XFL fans were majorly disappointed with the league recently. The minor American football league, which was relaunched earlier this year by Dwayne Johnson and his business associates, underwent its second full season. While that brought joy to the faces of fans, XFL’s recent announcement failed to strike a chord with the faithful.
They immediately called it out on social media, reminding the league where it has gone wrong with the news. But before checking out the reactions, let’s look at some recent developments surrounding the XFL.

XFL manages to keep its promise, announces ticket sales
The league wasn’t originally owned by Johnson and his business partners- Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners. They acquired it from pro wrestling impresario Vince McMahon after shelling out $23.5 million, including $8.5 million to settle a previous debt by the league.

After revamping it and managing to run a full season from February to May 2023, the new team management promised a second season under them. In accordance with that, XFL has announced its ticket sales for the 2024 season.

Earlier this year, just after the finish of its last season, Johnson’s co-owned league reportedly ran into losses. As reports of XFL’s $60 million loss emerged, the league received a lot of bad press. However, undeterred by the criticism, Dwayne Johnson told Forbes that he plans to take it slow and play the waiting game. The 51-year-old is also banking on storytelling to further his league.
On the other hand, XFL has also had success in its short stint so far. In July, shortly after day one of the XFL Combine, Johnson took to Twitter to share numbers from the league. According to The Great One, 31 XFL players have already signed with the NFL, while 116 players have worked out with teams from the big league.
These developments, combined with the news of ticket sales, should have made fans happy. But it didn’t. They were upset with the XFL for failing to deliver!
Fans urge XFL to develop their marketing style
There is no doubt that the update on ticket sales should have been a cause for celebrations. But according to many fans, it was XFL who spoiled the party.
They were particularly angry about XFL hyping things up and not delivering news that matched the excitement.
While I’m happy season tickets are on sale, massively Overhyped

The league had been building hype on the premise of a major announcement surrounding the XFL for days now. The said announcement was set to be made on August 1. When it did, it simply didn’t click with many fans.
No way you guys hyped everything up for tickets that have been available since week 9 of the season

Some fans also urged the league to not over-hype these and work on their marketing style.
I say this not to be rude but because I care about and love this league. Your marketing and advertising is terrible.
