Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley put on a classic at this year’s WrestleMania. The 39th edition of pro wrestling’s most prestigious event took place at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Despite featuring a belt holder and a Royal Rumble champion, the match, which took place on the first night of WrestleMania 39, wasn’t slotted as the main event. Questions were raised about whether the decision to sideline the match was due to the gender of the participants.

Now, Charlotte Flair has weighed in. While asking fans to overlook the gender, the 37-year-old backed her plea with reasons.

Charlotte Flair had a heartbreaking loss to Ripley, who snatched the SmackDown women’s gold from her. Despite the loss, The Queen said she was happy with Ripley as an opponent.

Speaking to Boardroom after the marquee event, which was also her last appearance on WWE, Flair opened up about her match and why it was important to make a point. She said she needed to make the match memorable. “We need to show them why we should have been the main event, that the women can tell stories just as good as the men, work at that level and rate and professionalism,” the 14 time Women’s champion said.

Charlotte added that she needed a good match for viewers to forget about the gender and was sure with Rhea Ripley inside the ring, she wouldn’t go wrong. “As a viewer, you will forget the gender as you’re watching us. Not just a good match; it needs to be one of the best matches of the weekend, so I knew that I could do that with Rhea. I had that confidence going out there,” Flair added.

Not just Charlotte Flair, her opponent also echoed the former’s sentiments. In an interview with WWE’s After The Bell podcast, the SmackDown Women’s champion said they showed why their match deserved the top spot on night one of WrestleMania 39. Ripley said she and Flair left everything inside the ring. It also brought an end to a classic feud between the two top female stars.

Will Charlotte Flair avenge her loss against Rhea Ripley?

For now, Charlotte Flair is away from the ring and is reportedly preparing for an alternate career- a bodybuilder. However, Flair is not out of WWE as per the latest draft.

The 14x champion was drafted to the blue brand, implying her continuing tenure with the Stamford-based promotion. So, will Flair seek revenge on Ripley? While that may happen in the future, Charlotte and her 26-year-old nemesis are unlikely to meet inside the ring anytime soon.

For the unversed, Ripley has been drafted to RAW, while Charlotte will represent SmackDown. Since the two rosters are different, the two wrestlers are unlikely to go head-to-head in the near future.

Also, Ripley has been riding a surge in popularity and it is unlikely for the WWE to strip her of the title quickly. But fans will remember Charlotte late last year took the belt off Ronda Rousey in less than 120 seconds during her return to the company.
