Grayson Waller has seen his stocks in WWE go north in the last few weeks. He managed to do so even without making his in-ring debut in the main roster after getting drafted to SmackDown in May. Waller, whose current gimmick is that of a heel, came out to protest John Cena’s decision at The O2 Arena during Money In The Bank. After going toe-to-toe with the legend on the microphone, Cena hit him with an Attitude Adjustment. Despite that, Waller praised his opponent by breaking his own character.
The Australian pro wrestler opened up about his debut match and the explosive interaction with Cena in a chat with popular podcast host Ariel Helwani on his MMA Hour show.

If you are wondering what prompted Cena to use the AA on the 33-year-old, well, it’s because the latter attacked him after the verbal confrontation. Surprisingly, Waller had managed to hold his own with The Cenation Leader, who is known for his legendary skills behind the microphone. When it comes to the use of words, Cena has even managed to embarrass The Rock once. And Johnson is considered to be one of the greatest behind the mic.
While it might surprise many, Waller told Helwani that he had anticipated it. He said that during his time at the developmental territory- NXT, Waller and Carmelo Hayes had a discussion about facing the 16-time world champion on the microphone.
“We’ve all seen before that Cena goes in on people. He doesn’t hold back,” Waller said. “He’s going to tell you what he thinks. I love that about him. He’s the measuring stick on the microphone, and he tests people,” he said in praise of Cena, just weeks after coming down hard on him, which is usually how he behaves in character.
Waller said that he had used Cena’s promos against current WWE United States Champion Austin Theory as his prep material. He added that Cena was testing Theory as well.
He said that when going up against the 46-year-old, he wasn’t scared. “That’s the attitude I bring into these things and that’s why I look so comfortable. I work hard. Nights like that are easy for me. They are the nights I get to enjoy.”
Waller managed to prove that yet again just a week later.
Grayson Waller manages to swim at Madison Square Garden
He’s just a few months old on the main roster and Waller already has had a brush with several legends in the WWE. After his interaction with John Cena, Waller locked horns with one of the icon’s hallowed rivals, Edge.
WWE handed Grayson Waller his debut match against Edge at the historic Madison Square Gardens. But before the bout, the WWE Hall of Famer doubted his ability. After handing him the loss, Edge approved of Waller and told him that he managed to ‘swim’, thus acknowledging his potential.

Waller has already been with the legends in the promotion and surprisingly hasn’t looked out of place. In fact, he even managed to get a response from Dwayne Johnson, after attacking The Great One on Twitter.
While things are going great at the moment, Waller would want to improve upon his in-ring results. So far, he is yet to win an encounter. The WWE Universe, however, isn’t complaining about the new star, as they deem that he’s entertaining and would hope that he continues.
