The WWE Universe had its eyes glued to the entrance area during the women’s Royal Rumble match. Fans were desperately waiting for a surprising returning wrestler to run through the ramp and enter the ring. While fans wanted this superstar to be Sasha Banks, all they got that night was the unexpected arrival of R-Truth.

Fans were bummed out when they didn’t see The Boss make a comeback at the Royal Rumble. Their hopes were high after what seemed like several hints and peaked when they saw Naomi return. But now, a new development says that Sasha Banks and her NJPW colleague Kazuchika Okada are making a return. It seems that the return will not be in WWE, but in AEW.

Several rumors and online activities gave very strong hints that Sasha Banks and Kazuchika Okada would make landfall in WWE. Banks, in particular, showed telltale signs similar to how CM Punk made a comeback at the Survivor Series. But, it turns out that the AEW already had Banks in the bag.

Dave Meltzer stated in the Wrestling Observer Radio, “(Kazuchika Okada) and Mercedes Moné, it’s coming down to the wire. AEW has thought that they have had Mercedes for a while.” Despite this, Tony Khan chose to not break the news due to an unexpected PR hurdle.

He further said, “They (AEW) were originally going to make the announcement on Saturday, and then they realized that was probably not the best day to make the announcement, because of the Vince (McMahon) stuff. It was like, no one’s gonna be talking about this.” Keeping this in mind, the Sasha Banks announcement is coming now instead of before.

This logic has now worked very well for AEW as fans will definitely pay their undivided attention to this news. Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone were one of the most sought-after pro wrestlers making an NJPW exit. However, a WWE employee believes that this will do nothing and Sasha Banks has potentially made a career-ruining mistake.

Will chasing paper get Sasha Banks nowhere?

WWE’s Eric Bischoff recently spoke about Sasha Banks choosing between AEW and WWE for her comeback in his 83 Weeks podcast. Bischoff noted that Tony Khan would clearly have a higher-paying offer over WWE. But, he also noted that choosing that road would be the surest way to spoil her pro wrestling career for Banks.

Bischoff noted, “If you don’t agree, not you, but if one doesn’t agree with that statement, look at any other former ‘WWE Star’ that is better off today than they were at the peak of their careers in WWE.” This is true for several ex-WWE wrestlers, especially Edge, who didn’t get the boom they expected.
