Wrestling would be incomplete without the funny moments that take place inside and outside the ring. On the latest edition of Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins and Rhea Ripley paid tribute to a hilarious spot from 2006 featuring Shawn Michaels and Melina. The former WWE Women’s Champion, Melina, couldn’t help but react to the moment.

If you missed the latest edition of Raw, Seth Rollins teamed up with AJ Styles against Finn Balor and Damien Priest. The latter team was also accompanied by Rhea Ripley who stood at the ringside. At some point during the match, Seth Rollins slid outside the ring and put his arm around an unsuspecting Rhea Ripley.

While Ripley expected it to be Priest or Balor’s arm, she shrieked after realizing it was Seth Rollins. The spot was a throwback to Survivor Series 2006, when Michaels pulled off the same thing with Melina.

Taking to Twitter, Melina reacted to the juxtaposition of the two moments. And Melina had a three-word reaction- “I love this” she wrote on Twitter. Back in 2006, team DX and others were pitted against team-led Rated RKO in a traditional Survivor Series 5-man elimination match. During the match, Shawn Michaels hilariously startled Melina by clasping her in his arm before both screamed and repelled. 

Fans witnessed an on-point imitation of the spot and it left nothing to be desired. Although Melina isn’t very active in the squared circle today, she will never be forgotten due to her major contribution to the business.

When Trish and Lita left WWE, Melina and other female superstars such as Beth Phoenix and Michelle McCool carried the women’s division.

The A-List Diva left the company in 2011. However, despite the brevity of her run in WWE, Melina is a three-time WWE Women’s Champion and a two-time Divas Champion. In 2022, the former leader of MNM made her surprise return to wrestling after 11 years.

The Women’s Royal Rumble 2022 started off with a bang with Sasha Banks entering the match at number 1. However, the reaction from the fans was deafening when Melina revealed herself as the entrant number 2. Although Melina did not last long, she felt the adulation from her fans. And that was enough to make her emotional during her interview backstage. 

During her interview with WWE Digital Exclusive, Melina almost teared up stating, “I have been waiting for this moment and I’m telling you, the fans are so amazing. You do not know. I feel people’s energy. So, when I hear that crowd and everybody cheering, the love- I feel it, I hear it, I feel it with all my heart.”
