Less Than 24 Hours After Joining Threads, Top WWE Star Falls Victim to Scammers: “Lmao They Spelled My Name Wrong”

Meta’s new text-based app, which will compete with Twitter, made its worldwide debut on 5th July 2023. Within a span of 1.5 hours since its release, ‘Threads’ reached a whopping 1 Million users. Its users include several WWE celebrities, including Queen Zelina Vega. However, superstars and fans weren’t the only ones who got on the platform early. It appears that scammers also made their way in during the early hours, right after the launch of the platform.

It is important for fans to know what their favorite wrestlers are called on this new platform. So, a loyal Vega fan shared a screenshot of a fake account pretending to be the WWE superstar and tagged the ‘Queen’. The female wrestler didn’t take long to reply.

The ‘thread’ started off with a fan sharing the screenshot of the fake account and writing the caption, “Fakes have made their way into Threads.” The shared screenshot shows the account with the Thread username ‘thea_tirindad’. The account also claimed to be an official account of the wrestler Thea Trinidad sharing her ‘unseen’ pictures. When Zelina Vega saw the thread, she replied by pointing out a hilarious detail. Something that you may not need to take a second look at.

Vega replied by saying, “Lmfao they spelled my name wrong. If anyone falls for this.” This is, in fact, true as the spelling of ‘Trinidad’ isn’t right in the fake username. The female wrestler also implied that it would be very unintelligent of a person if they were scammed despite this huge mistake.

More than the fake username, the lack of the ‘verified tick’ gives away the account as fake. This is a feature that Thread’s competition, Twitter, snatched away from its users, giving way to potential scammers.

WWE stars and other wrestlers protested Twitter’s ‘blue subscription’

For a long time, Twitter didn’t have a ‘subscription’ system. However, after Elon Musk acquired the social media platform, he introduced a ‘blue subscription’. With this, people have to buy their way in to get the blue tick verification on Twitter. And whoever did not buy the subscription, their verification was taken away. This also included celebrities and several wrestling stars did not appreciate this move.

Wrestling fans pointed out that this will cause people to be vulnerable to scammers because they wouldn’t know the difference between real and fake accounts.

On the other hand, Threads has eliminated the problem of a subscription to get a verification mark. So, it keeps scammers at bay.
