When one thinks about such fights, the 16-minute squash match between Brock Lesnar and John Cena from 2014 would certainly pop up in the discussion. It happened in the main event of SummerSlam 2014, which ended in Lesnar turning into beast mode against Cena. Now, almost a decade later, The Champ revealed how the idea for that night sparked. 

For those who don’t remember this highly intense match from SummerSlam 2014, it was a nightmare for Cena. during the match; he received a total of sixteen German Suplexes and a few F5s from The Beast Incarnate. Although many fans were shocked by the booking given Cena was a top star at that time, it turns out he himself agreed with the squash.

On his recent appearance in Notsam Wrestling, The Cenation Leader revealed his honest reaction when the idea of Lesnar beating him to a pulp at SummerSlam was proposed. It might sound bizarre, but Cena agreed to it straight away, keeping in mind the bigger picture. 

First, he disclosed how this massive idea of his complete annihilation at the hands of Lesnar came about.

Cena said, “I remember Brock being like, ‘Hey you know, I had dinner with Steve Austin, last night and we came up with this idea where I just start suplexing you and don’t stop and then beat you.’” 

To this, the 16-time world champion’s reaction was, “yeah” which even confused The Conqueror. But in Cena’s mind, it was about the bigger picture, about WWE. He couldn’t let the business down.

Brock Lesnar already broke The Undertaker’s streak in WrestleMania 30, a few months before the SummerSlam, which meant he had a lof of heat and momentum.

Following the path of Arn Anderson, whom Cena admires, he came aboard for the idea. Even in the podcast, he remembered the words of the legend and said, “It’s not my night,” referring to the fact that Lesnar’s win was needed on the night. Although it wasn’t just for Lesnar, it was also about all those matches of The Deadman in the lead-up to losing to Lesnar at WrestleMania 30.

After revealing all that went into the squash match for the WWE Heavyweight Championship in 2014, Cena concluded the subject by explaining how the wrestling business works. He said, “That is how you make someone, and then that someone can make others and that’s how the business works you have to be able to work together.

From this, we can easily deduce that John Cena is a true sport as he gave a close look at the working of the pro wrestling business.
