To answer one question about why wrestlers are hairless and covered in oil, Cena said there was no technical reason for no body hair. This is a personal choice for the wrestlers. He went on to say that long hair can be pulled during a match, which can be very painful. “Someone grabbing your hair, which is why I keep my six-dollar fade the way it is,” he said.

“That sh*t hurts, and if you’re covered in oil, people can’t grab you,” he continued. This is why many wrestlers often keep short military-style hair or stay bald. He went on to talk about the clothes they wear in the ring and their functionality. The wrestler’s hair and clothes are styled to ensure they do not get tangled or pulled during a match.

Cena’s evolving yet consistent style throughout the WWE

Cena is among the few wrestlers in the WWE who has never changed his style in the industry. The biggest change was from his original gimmick as The Prototype to the Doctor of Thuganomics and his final form as the Super John Cena we know today. Cena has openly discussed his original gimmick as the Prototype during his developmental stages. He hated the gimmick that had him play a half-human and half-robotic character.

However, his next big change came as the Doctor of Thuganomics. The idea was born during a special taping of WWE SmackDown in 2002. During the Halloween special, Cena arrived dressed as rapper Vanilla Ice and started freestyle rapping. This became his new gimmick, where he would taunt his opponents with some really good rap bars. This gimmick would continue for another three years before becoming the John Cena we know, with Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect as his catchphrase.
